I spent two days down at FeatherFest in Galveston last week. FeatherFest is one of the largest birding festivals in Texas, and the only one with a dedicated nature photography track. I had a wonderful time taking a couple of lecture sessions and three photo field trips. On my last field trip, which took place from 4-8 pm, we sat for almost four hours without seeing more than a couple of birds. Then, just as the sun was setting, a great blue heron flew across the setting sun, landed, and caught a huge fish. Then several Forster’s terns started diving in the setting sun. Definitely worth the wait!
